Vertical Retail: Asian Typologies Going Global

Stephen Jones
Woods Bagot, Hong Kong

Our global city’s free human experience from ground level fusing the traditional city spaces into vertical matrices of commercial, workplace and living spaces. New building forms have emerged that have the potential to translate to become future global typologies.

In Asia, creative vertical mixed-use stand face-to-face with dynamic vertical retail formats that express the social and economic drivers that characterize conditions of the Asia-Century cities.

Through research and analysis supported by Woods Bagot’s SuperSpace Design Analytics program we explore the drivers of vertical retail buildings from around Asia, the ingredients to successful forms (identity, push/pull circulation, transformational spaces, driving lease value and retail zoning, servicing, etc.) and how vertical retail buildings translate to high value locations in cities globally.
