Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Hong Kong

This presentation discussed ways in which the Hong Kong government tackles the abundance of skyscrapers in the city and how Hong Kong’s tall buildings compare to those in other parts of the world. The speaker contextualized high-rise development in the city by detailing its building codes and guidelines concerning sustainability, wind and seismic testing, fire safety, energy consumption, and the structural use of materials like concrete or glass. He ended the presentation with a critique on the industry, calling for greater effort in the maintenance of buildings with highly fragmented ownership and the development of a more effective building safety culture.
