Shenzhen witnessed the full cycle of urbanization through industrialization in the first 30 years since its inception as a municipality in 1979. In the past decade, this youngest metropolitan in China is embarking on the post-industrial transformation. In a sense, Shen Ye Upperhills development is an urban renewal migrating from an industrial age to a post-industrial society - a case of redevelopment from industrial manufacturing single land use to a mixed land use that forms an urban place integrating various human activities such as living, working and entertaining, etc. The presentation explored the methodologies to create a sustainable landmark urban place from multiple angles such as urban evolution, civic inspiration, natural resource, applicable technologies and development ambitions, as well as to reveal the impact of this type of projects to the city growth.
