The 2016 Conference took place progressively across three cities, beginning in Shenzhen, where the core program – including the majority of presentations, 20|20 Panel Discussion, panel discussions, program rooms, and the conference exhibition – was held. Situated in the Luohu District, the Grand Hyatt Shenzhen was the official conference venue and hotel. This luxurious hotel is part of City Crossing, Shenzhen’s most prestigious mixed-use commercial development, and stands among many iconic Shenzhen skyscrapers. Close to the border of Hong Kong, the hotel features views across the border to tranquil rice paddies, contrasting with the bustle of Shenzhen.

Sunday 16 October, the “pre-day” to the conference, consisted of all-day CTBUH leader and committee meetings. Registration/collection of materials for general delegates, as well as viewing of the conference exhibition, took place in the afternoon. Coaches to the iconic Ping An Finance Center, for the Opening VIP Reception (for those registered), departed the hotel at 5:30 pm, or registered delegates made their own way there. The VIP Reception at the Ping An Finance Center was thus the official start of the 2016 Conference. See more on plans for the reception in this inspiring, 599-meter, “China’s second tallest” building.

The Shenzhen segment of the conference proper took place on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 October, and consisted of 11 formal tracks of presentations, from which delegates chose on-site, and three plenary sessions (i.e. all delegates located in one space – The Grand Ballroom). A continental breakfast was served each morning from 8:00 am, with proceedings starting at 9:00 am. There were two 30-minute networking coffee breaks during the day, as well as a one-hour networking lunch. The coffee breaks and lunches took place among the conference exhibition, where 30 of the world’s top tall building developers, consultants, contractors, and suppliers were on display.

The Monday evening, 17 October, saw the second conference networking reception, at Shum Yip Upperhills – a fantastic large-scale urban development comprising six towers, a short coach ride from the hotel. See more on this reception.

On the evening of Tuesday 18 October, delegates had already elected (through registration) whether to move on to the Guangzhou segment of the Conference or stay in Shenzhen for the Wednesday of Off-Site Programs. The Shenzhen Off-Site Programs are outlined below. Those delegates continuing on to the Guangzhou Program traveled by bus with CTBUH to Guangzhou that evening. See details on the Guangzhou Program.
